Join Us and Holocaust Expert Dr. Daniel Lesham, former student of Dr. Deborah Lipstadt for this Buffalo Premiere Event

The Holocaust Resource Center of Buffalo and Jewish Community Center Cultural Arts Program announce the Buffalo premiere of feature-film “DENIAL” Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Amherst Dipson Theater at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are first come first serve at standard cost. Please arrive early.

Based on the acclaimed book Denial: Holocaust History on TrialDENIAL recounts Deborah E. Lipstadt’s (portrayed by Academy Award® winner Rachel Weisz) legal battle for historical truth against David Irving (BAFTA nominee Timothy Spall), who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier. In the British legal system, in cases of libel, the burden of proof is on the defendant, therefore it was up to Lipstadt and her legal team, led by Richard Rampton (Academy Award® nominee Tom Wilkinson), to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust occurred.

Dr. Deborah Lipstadt is currently professor of Modern Jewish History and Holocaust Studies at Emory University.

The program includes Holocaust expert Dr. Dan Leshem, Director of the Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives at Queensborough College. Dr. Leshem was Deborah Lipstadt’s PhD student at Emory College.  He will give a brief introduction to the film and will follow the screening with a Q&A. HRC will distribute at least 20 free tickets to high school and university students.

HRC has dedicated the 2016-2017 programming year to addressing and debunking Holocaust deniers. A conference for public school teachers will take place November 14 entitled: Truth Will Prevail: Debunking Holocaust Denial in Your Classroom. The keynote speaker is Dr. Michael Shermer.

The Denial program is generously sponsored by Jeffrey Freedman.
